A new movement is challenging employers to put happiness at the core of workplace culture. On 3rd September 2025, Lord Mark Price – business leader, former UK Trade Minister, and founder of WorkL – will officially launch the world’s first Work Happiness Charter, a framework designed to make happiness at work a recognised right for every employee.
The Charter, informed by years of WorkL’s global research, surveys and case studies, outlines ten fundamental rights for workers, including fair pay, respect, recognition, training, wellbeing support and the right to be listened to. Alongside these, it highlights responsibilities such as giving your best effort, being punctual, honest and committed to personal development.
Lord Mark Price explains:
“Work should be safe, fulfilling and rewarding. Just as health and safety legislation defines what ‘safe’ means, the Work Happiness Charter defines what happiness at work is – and why it matters. A happy workforce isn’t a luxury; it’s a right and a business imperative.”
For HR leaders, the Charter offers a practical framework to align people strategies with wellbeing and engagement, while also providing a clear badge of commitment that organisations can display once signed.
The initiative coincides with the release of Lord Price’s new book, Work Happier, which provides insights for employees seeking greater fulfilment and practical advice for employers striving to build positive workplace cultures.
Signing the Charter is free for both organisations and individuals. Companies that sign up will receive resources to promote their participation and a badge to showcase their commitment to employee happiness.
