Perceptions around menopause in the workplace are starting to change with around three in 10 employers now having a menopause friendly policy. At last years inaugural Menopause Friendly Employer Awards, the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP, Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee, called for more British businesses to commit to being menopause friendly. She asked every business which currently has a successful menopause friendly policy to encourage at least one other business in their network to follow their example which would result in at least 50% of employers implementing a menopause policy by World Menopause Day, October 18, 2023.

We welcome the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MPs challenge to businesses and fully support her #FindAFriend idea, says Deborah Garlick. To help achieve her aim, we asked our Menopause Friendly employer members to host roadshow events for local businesses and have been greatly encouraged by their enthusiastic response.

Being a menopause friendly employer means going further than simply having guidance document on file, says Deborah. To truly change the lived experience of menopause in the workplace, employers must have bespoke policies for their organisation and ensure best practice and support are actively implemented.

Roadmap to success

Whether organisations are starting from scratch or have already begun their journey to being a menopause friendly employer, the practical, face-to-face roadshow events will provide a roadmap for success with the following agenda delivered by expert speakers:

  • Why menopause in the workplace is important: the compelling case for change
  • What menopause is and how someone could be affected at work
  • How menopause is covered by employment law: what employers need to consider
  • Employer case study insight and impact
  • Time for networking and Q&As

Each event will be chaired by Deborah Garlick and her experienced team, now in their 7th year supporting employers – large and small – public and private sector. All attendees will leave the event with genuinely helpful resources to enable them put into action what they have learnt.
